Tips That Won’t Leave You in the Dog House
Restrain your pet properly. A crash-tested harness or secured carrier is the difference between “safe travels” and “flying lessons.” Look for gear that’s actually been tested for vehicle safety, not just labeled “travel-friendly.”
Don’t let the weather catch you napping (or your pet cat-astrophizing). Alberta can go from scorching to snowing faster than you can say “chinook.” Never leave a pet alone in a parked car and pack extra water, blankets and season-appropriate gear.
Pack a first-aid kit (because accidents happen, paws down). A small kit with the basics, plus the nearest emergency vet along your route, can make all the difference if things go sideways.
Plan your pit stops. Long Alberta drives mean long stretches with nothing but road and sky. Know where you can stop for a stretch, a drink and a bathroom break.
Keep ID and microchip info current. If you and your pet get separated at a rest stop, a collar tag and updated microchip are your best shot at a happy reunion, no wild goose (cat/dog) chase required.
